  • Girl Cave | WAY gallery Sthlm

VERA JÖRGENSEN - GIRL CAVE - Vera Jörgensen (b.1994) is a Stockholm based artist, photographer and performer. Influenced by pop culture, cinematic visuals and fictive character portrayals the artist explores gaze, femininity and desire. By exposing herself in front of the camera and combining symbolic attributes with suggestive posing while adding subtle twists to conventional imagery, she creates a place where the familiar turns absurd; passing her own ambiguous feelings on to the viewer. In ‘Girl Cave’ the artist revisits the exploratory phase of a girl growing up in the 90’s – early 00’s. Like a girl lip syncing in front of a mirror, the photos are taken in the artist's own home. Separated from the outside world in a stripped down room, pressing the self-timer with only an imaginary view through the camera lens, she is directing her own dream. As the artist describes: ‘My feet have become too big to play dress up in my mothers shoes, the gap between my feet and the size of hers has shrunk and high heels come with blisters now. As soon as I could fill out a bra without socks and pick up my own lip shade, jewelry lost its magic. I went from playing to performing. Still, dreaming about My Mother Hollywood, I’m In my Girl Cave, building the fourth wall.’ @verajorgensen VERKSLISTA

  • Rebeka Rácz | WAY gallery Sthlm

REBEKA RÁCZ Rebeka Rácz is an artist living and working in Budapest, Hungary. She learned ceramics by herself. She loves to experiment, play with the matter and question boundaries. Recently she is interested in the topics of self-development and self-knowledge and is creating objects that reflect on this. The coils she builds her works with represent the development of one’s self. The coils come on top of each other, the former supporting the latter, just like the layers of our consciousness. The candleholders are built together of little parts, just like one’s character. With these objects time gets involved: as candles burn, wax drips down on the object creating new layer on them. @_rebeka_racz

FRIDA JOHANSSON Frida Johansson was born in Falkenberg 1987. She lives and work in Stockholm. She studied at Konstfack and the Academy Valand between 2007-2013. Her works have been shown around the country, at Liljevalchs, Fotografiska Museet and Halland Art Museum. In Frida Johansson's work, nature, people and the environment are depicted mainly in realistic painting. All works are pieces of stories, where one image leads to the next. Her painting is a way of processing events, and the motifs are taken from everyday moments where the people in the paintings are often in empty and silent environments, facing away from the viewer. Themes such as rootlessness, melancholy, and femininity are treated. Through art, she investigates and tries to understand her surroundings in order to make our contemporary times visible. @fridajohansson.eu

  • Gustaf Lilliestierna | WAY gallery Sthlm

GUSTAF LILLIESTIERNA Gustaf Lilliestierna's work is grounded in an aesthetic and theoretical fascination with images, a fascination that has sparked a strong interest in the ontology of the image. In his painterly work, Gustaf examines a distinct image as it emerges mentally. He then seeks to create a clear reference by studying the character of the mental image through associative, logical, and dramaturgical principles. Gustaf then uses this mental reference as a model in painting. However, depicting mental images has led Gustaf to contemplate the implicit nature of the image: how do we actually differentiate a depiction from what we call an image? And is it really possible to characterize the properties of a specific image without this image becoming distorted in relation to the viewer and therefore inevitably transcending itself? Due to these considerations, Gustaf's works often give rise to ambivalent impressions, thus engaging the viewer in a process reminiscent of the one that entertained the artist in the creation of the work: mentally proposing and investigating the conditions of visual language context based on personal associations. Gustaf therefore argues that his work is not the image we see in itself, but rather the images that emerge mentally when a viewer imagines the circumstances through their mental visual language. Gustaf is based in Stockholm and has a background in philosophy and fine arts. @gravkonst

  • Erika Kristofersson Bredberg | WAY gallery Sthlm

ERIKA KRISTOFERSSON BREDBERG Erika Kristofersson Bredberg is a glass artist drawn to the synthetic and artificial, a contrast to her upbringing in the Ångermanland forest and her education in glass craftsmanship. Visually, Erika's pieces often depict an ongoing collapse or a paused deformation. The process in the glassworks often determines the final outcome but can be revisited afterward. A standing sculpture may be reheated, collapse, or become flat. Creation occurs quickly and intuitively. Erika has trained and worked with glass for 15 years. She blows and sculpts the warm glass freehand. Knowledge and manual dexterity are important to Erika, using them as a political tool, such as being part of the feminist separatist art group BOOM! Together with Ammy Olofsson, she runs the glassworks Glasbolaget in Bro. They produce glass on commission for others, but primarily it serves as their studio. The workshop is located approximately 3.5 miles north of Stockholm. Their melting furnace is unique as it is powered by environmentally friendly energy/gas from the Högbytorp landfill site. @erika.kristofersson.bredberg EXPLORE ARTWORK

  • Kristin Eriksson | WAY gallery Sthlm

KRISTIN ERIKSSON Kristin Eriksson is an artist from Stockholm who specializes in digital art and illustration. She discovered her interest in digital art while studying digital design and freelancing as a graphic designer in Sydney, Australia. Much of her inspiration comes from old newspapers and photographs, primarily from the 1960s, as well as artists from the past, such as Edward Hopper and Robert McGinnis. Many of her artworks are based on observations of people in various settings, perhaps in a moment of anticipation, solitude, boredom, or introspection - sometimes with elements of surrealism. Cats have always been a recurring theme in her art and make occasional appearances, often alongside the people she illustrates. @artcatillustrated BUY PRINT GALLERI

  • Anna Arvidsson | WAY gallery Sthlm

Lucrecia Rey Caro Anna Charlotta Arvidsson grew up and works in Stockholm. She has engaged in various forms of creative expression for most of her life. Among other things, she has recorded an album and toured with the band Chick habit, wrote music herself and had a great interest in photography. "The interesting thing about using different forms of expression is that different sides of one's inner self come out," says Anna. In text and music, her darker side comes out, while the paintings are created more according to what she experiences as beautiful and harmonious. After Anna became a mother, she found that it was difficult to find time and energy to dedicate herself to music, so Anna and her daughter started making collages together instead. There, Anna found her new expression, which resulted in graphic collages and paintings. Through her Instagram account en_novis_mani, she got her works out and that led to many people opening their eyes to her. The paintings and collagen are an expression of Anna's restlessness and a tool to deal with it. By creating something very organized and symmetrical, Anna's somewhat messy interior is calmed down and she thus finds inner peace. She hopes that those who look at her work get a similar feeling. During the creative process, she becomes completely focused and almost obsessed with color combinations and shapes. It becomes almost a form of mania or total obsession, which is why she names her works as manias. @en_novis_mani

  • Designtorget x WAY | Erika Kristofersson Bredberg

ERIKA KRISTOFERSSON BREDBERG Tell us about yourself and your artistic background, education, and previous projects. I am a trained glassblower from Småland and hold a Bachelor's degree in Ceramics & Glass from Konstfack. I run a glassworks together with Ammy Olofsson since 2016. Our melting furnace is powered by sustainable energy, and we work with custom glass production. I'm a member of the women's separatist artist group BOOM! and work on creative school projects in Västernorrland. In my artistry, I blow and sculpt in hot glass. I'm drawn to the synthetic and artificial, a contrast to my upbringing in the Ångermanland forest and my education in glass craftsmanship. Visually, my objects often represent an ongoing collapse or a paused deformation. The process often determines the final result, but it can be redone afterward. A standing sculpture can be reheated, collapse, become flat. The creation happens quickly and intuitively. My current references include Disney, psychedelia, and nature. What is the inspiration behind the artwork(s) and what are your thoughts about them? The mushroom is something I've been working with quite a bit in the past year. It symbolizes growth, life, networks, and sensory experience. There are mushrooms that are fluorescent, deadly, and purifying. I believe that for many people, mushrooms are their strongest connection to nature, as they appear in everything from a chanterelle sandwich and video games to the human body. Share your thoughts about the collaboration. For example, how has it been working with different types of materials? It has been rewarding to adapt to a color scheme and to be able to reach a broader audience. The mushrooms are a limited edition, and it feels nice that they will coexist with high-quality objects and products on Designtorget's shelves. Tell us about your relationship with Designtorget. Do you have any specific memories related to Designtorget, which is now celebrating its 30th anniversary? Designtorget wasn't near where I grew up, so it was a store I found exciting and luxurious to enter as a young person when we visited bigger cities. Tell us about your relationship with WAY gallery Sthlm. I have great trust in WAY due to the collaborations we've had. WAY is generous, attentive, and it's refreshing to have a gallery that stands outside the hierarchical gallery norm. How has this collaboration been for you? Do you have a summarizing word for it? Like mycelium - branching and vibrant. @erika.kristofersson.bredberg Read more and preorder here
