Rebeka Rácz
Rebeka Rácz approaches ceramics with playful curiosity, constantly experimenting with materiality and pushing the boundaries of form. Her practice centers on themes of self development and introspection, where ceramic objects become metaphors for the inner workings of the self. After long years of studying theory of art and design she felt the urge to create something physical, discovering the endless possibilities of matter and the advantage of learning everything by herself. Experiments, restlessness, naivety and courage describe her style.
Her hand built pieces often use coils, a method she sees as symbolic of personal growth, the layers stacking atop one another like stages of consciousness, each one supported by the last. Candleholders further this exploration: constructed from many small parts, they reflect the multifaceted nature of identity. As candles burn and wax drips over the ceramic surfaces, time becomes an active participant in shaping the work, echoing the continuous evolution of the self.
Rácz’s work has been exhibited widely, including solo shows at Ena Koner x Kastner Kommunity (Budapest, 2024), ISBN books+gallery (Budapest, 2019), Galerie města Třince (Czech Republic, 2019) and Telep Gallery (Budapest, 2017). She has also taken part in numerous group exhibitions such as Reversed Objects at Ludwig Museum (Budapest, 2024), The Magic Donkey Inn at Longtermhandstand Gallery (Budapest, 2024), HEAT at Way Gallery (Stockholm, 2024) and ARGILE at Klin D’oeil (Paris, 2019). Her work has been featured in international press including The New York Times, Hype and Hyper, The Clay Head, Horst und Edeltraut, Culture Trip and Marie Claire. In 2019 she participated in the TALENTE – International Crafts Fair in Munich and undertook a residency at Ways in Gyula, Hungary.
